Resolution Right-click the Start Windows icon. In the shortcut menu, click Open Windows Explorer. In the navigation pane, click Computer so that your drives appear in the right pane. Right-click the drive that you want to check. Click Properties. Click the Tools tab. Click the Check now button. Follow these steps: Insert the original Windows disc. Restart your PC and boot from the disc. Click Repair your computer.
Choose the operating system from the list. Click Next. Choose Command Prompt. Press Enter. To begin the scan, right-click on the Drive which you wish to check and select Properties. Next, click on Tools tab and under Error-checking, click on the Check button. This option will check the drive for file system errors. If the system detects that there are errors, you will be asked to check the disk. First of all, select the drive partition for which you want to check for errors and hit a right-click on it.
Check Disk window will prompt now with two different options; Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. Within Properties, switch to the Tools tab and click Check. Click Start and then click My Computer. Right-click the hard disk drive to scan, and click Properties. In the Local Disk Properties window, click the Tools tab. Click Check Now.
In this case, click Schedule disk check. Exit all open programs, and then restart your computer. The checking will start automatically before next Windows startup and display the results when completed. If you are not checking the system drive, you do not have to turn off the computer. However, the selected drive may also be in use. In this case, you receive a message. After you have saved all files and close all open programs, click Force a dismount.
