Microsoft project server 2010 delete resource

Deactivating a resource is done by using Microsoft Project Web App. Only a server administrator can deactivate a resource.

In the Task Name column, select and right-click the task with the resource that you want to replace. Choose Assign Resources. In the Assign Resources dialog, in the Resource Name column, select the resource that you want to replace. In the Replace Resource dialog box, select the resource that you want to replace, and then choose OK. To replace the selected resource with multiple resources, hold down CTRL, and then select the resource that you want to add.

Note: Project will not remove the resource if actual work has been completed on the assignment. The replacement resource is assigned the remaining work from the original assignment. You can adjust these work values, if necessary.

To specify the amount of work the new resource will perform on a task, in the Units list for the resource, enter one of the following:.

Assign a group of resources full time to the task by entering a percentage greater than percent. Assign the consumption rate for a material resource by typing a number that indicates the amount of material to be used for this assignment.

Note: Cost information for the duration of the resource's time on the task is automatically calculated and shown in the Cost column. Double-click a Cost column field to enter different cost rate information for the resource. Notes: As you remove assigned resources from tasks, the durations for those tasks might change. Easy to follow. No jargon. Pictures helped. When I check the views to see which projects those resources own, there are no such projects! Just to confirm, did you get the below error: "The resource is owner on one or more projects and cannot be deleted" "The resource is assignment owner for one or more resources and cannot be deleted".

Navigate to the Project Center page and apply the Summary view. Filter for the name of the resource in the Owner field. That will tell you which projects are owned by the resource. If you find any projects owned by the resource, then change the Owner to another PM. Navigate to the Resource Center and apply the All Resources view. Filter for the name of the resource in the Default Assignment Owner field. This will tell you which resources have the resource you want to delete as the Default Assignment Owner.

Change the Default Assignment Owner to someone else. I have to delete the resource and cant use deactivate because another user with that login id has to be added. Hi Thanks for the answer again. Check if there are some projects in the archive database that have the resource as owner.

Go to "Administrative restore" and look for projects which were deleted but still have some archived versions. Going through all your plans looking at the "Assignment Owner" field wont help you here. Can you run the below queries and let me know if you are getting any output for the 3,4 and 5th query.
